Using Trauma Informed Care, Acres addresses the underlying issues of homelessness – addiction, abuse and poverty – to support a woman as she makes lasting change in her life and for her family.
The Acres program first and foremost requires women to be motivated to change and grow. It also requires women to be clean and sober, hold a job, attend classes and Grace group, attend a local church and be involved in the daily house chores. The program is faith based but does not require the women to hold the same faith only be willing to be in a faith based environment.
Unlike most transitional housing programs Acres allows women to stay in the program as long as is best for their situation. Acres provides the safe place for women to rewrite their story and break the cycles of addiction and abuse in their families.
In addition to working one on one with a Case Manager, each woman is paired with mentor and coaches from the community who support them as they work to rebuild their life.
Standard courses offered in the program:
- Parenting classes
- Health and nutrition classes
- Financial literacy and budgeting
- Interview and job coaching
- Mentorship
- College prep
All courses are taught or led by skilled volunteers in the community. These volunteers invest in the women and teach valuable life skills that empower the women to take chances and to live a stable and healthy life after leaving Acres.
